The Long Play3.jpg

Let Your Eyes Out to Play.

The Long Play is a mosaic mural that brings imaginative play to the back of the bouldering wall at Element Park in St. Albert.

Nothing here needs a correct answer. Find a creature. Invent a story. Come back and see something completely different.

A little wild goes a long way

The Long Play began with people making things without worrying too much about what they were supposed to be. During community workshops, children and adults drew, made marks, and played with mosaic. We carried that fearless spirit into the mural: shapes that could be several things at once, unlikely neighbours, and room for the unexpected.

someday,

a child will stand here

and look up at this wall.

they won’t know

how the colours began.

they won’t know

about the hands that gathered,

the drawings that wandered,

the tiles turned to creatures

and flew for an afternoon

they will simply see

the door to a world

awaiting its completion, its purpose,

in their own tiny finger

tracing out lines on a wall.

and of course a mosaic is never one thing

It’s countless tiny things

learning to belong, become one

call it a community:

not sameness,

but difference

learning the shape

of together

now come closer

bring your questions, your wonder

bring that wild idea

you never told a soul.

there is room for it here
