A community mural experience
A Choreography was designed around the idea of collective making. Over five days, participants came together to create a mosaic mural by learning a shared language of rhythm, material, and attention.
Participants learned through demonstration and hands-on making (no prior experience with mosaic was required), working on individual sections before coming together to assemble the mural on site.
We created a space where participants could contribute confidently, regardless of background, and where the group gradually became a team.
As participants worked on different sections of the mural, they learned from one another, adapted to each other’s pace, and made decisions based on what was already there. The final artwork holds this collective movement in place.
Voices from the experience
“I had no prior experience with mosaics, but after a couple of hours of explanation & demos, I was trying my hand at it. It was so rewarding on installation day to see what we created as a group. Thank you, Christian & Erin, for being such amazing teachers & leaders in this process. This was an experience I will always cherish.”

This project demonstrates how public art can be created through shared effort, balancing clear artistic direction with openness to many voices. This approach can be adapted to different communities, organizations, and contexts, offering a way to bring people together through making, learning, and care.
